TAKE 2 Performing Arts Academy has been a ‘godsend’ for youngsters with a passion for theatre.
The youth theatre, in Birdwell, welcomes youngsters aged three to 21 to learn the skills needed to perform on stage.
Teaching everything from dance and musical theatre to drama, students get the chance to put on their own shows and work like a professional theatre company.
Theatre manager Julie Whitfield told the Chronicle: “Kids get to work with staff who teach them all about theatre, confidence building, and how to put together a show.
“We recently did a really good ‘Everyone’s Talking About Jamie’ production where the actual Jamie that the show’s based on attended.
“Thankfully, we’re thriving now after Covid - for children who couldn’t get out during lockdown it’s been a godsend.
“Obviously as well as the theatre you’ve got that social side with it, where kids are able to build connections with one another.”
The academy has had some successful alumni, including Danielle Steers who has performed in Bat Out of Hell: The Musical at the Manchester Opera House and most recently got a chance to perform in Just For One Day at the famous Old Vic Theatre in London.
Danielle has returned to the academy that gave her a start to help prepare an upcoming production of Six the Musical, which she has performed in the past at London.
“People always come back to help out,” Julie added.
“We’ve really built a Take 2 family here.”
